Language Requirements and Opportunities: The Marine and Environmental Conservation Cohort Internship in Costa Rica is open to participants worldwide. Intermediate English (B2) is required for effective communication, but Spanish is optional. A basic knowledge or willingness to learn Spanish will enrich both professional and cultural experiences.
The program offers informal Spanish practice through daily interactions with locals, conservation teams, and community members, allowing participants to build useful language skills while contributing to meaningful projects.

Housing Overview : Interns stay in shared accommodations across different project sites, typically in rooms of 4–6 people with bunk or single beds. All locations provide electricity, fans, Wi-Fi, and shared bathrooms, with some offering hot water and laundry services for an extra cost. Options for added privacy (single supplement) are available in certain areas.
- San José – Hostel with shared rooms and bathrooms; single supplement available.
- Caño Negro – Camp-style bunkhouses with basic amenities and social areas.
- Cuajiniquil – Hotel with shared rooms, hot showers, and laundry service; single supplement offered.
- Camaronal – Shared rooms for 4, communal kitchen, and laundry area.
- Uvita – Hotel with rooms for 4, hot water, laundry service, and single supplement option.
