Program Overview

Your Business + Culture program in Tokyo gives you the opportunity to gain hands-on professional experience in one of the world’s most fast-paced and innovative cities while taking a broad range of business courses and experiencing the cultural traditions that bring the city to life. You’ll enroll in a combination of CIEE courses, host institution courses, and courses taught online through CIEE's global academic partner, ASU. Immerse yourself in Tokyo through co-curricular and extracurricular activities like exploring the neighborhoods of Shibuya and Harajuku, visiting historic temples and modern art museums, attending business seminars and networking events, and sampling the city’s diverse culinary scene. In Tokyo, every day blends professional growth with cultural immersion in a city where tradition, creativity, and innovation collide.

Excursions & Activities

CIEE’s excursions and cultural activities in Tokyo will open doors for you to explore Japan’s rich diversity, language, culture, history, and timeless beauty in ways that will enhance your time abroad.

Samples of excursions and activities: 

  • Take a trip to Marunouchi, Otemachi, or another major business district to learn about Tokyo’s role as a financial and corporate center in Asia 
  • Enjoy a day trip to a historically significant destination, such as Nikko or Kamakura, to experience Japanese history, religious architecture, and natural scenery beyond Tokyo 
  • Visit a startup hub, co-working space, or entrepreneurship support organization in Tokyo to learn about Japan’s emerging startup scene
