Program Overview

Your Business + Culture program in Mérida offers a broad selection of business courses, and places you in the vibrant heart of Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula. You’ll enroll in a combination of CIEE courses and courses taught online through CIEE's global academic partner, ASU. Dive into co-curricular and extracurricular activities like exploring the colonial streets of Centro Histórico, tasting Yucatecan dishes like cochinita pibil at local markets, visiting nearby Mayan ruins like Uxmal, and participating in community projects that highlight local business development and cultural preservation. Mérida invites you to experience a city where deep-rooted traditions and modern opportunity come together in meaningful ways.

Excursions & Activities

CIEE’s excursions and cultural activities in Mérida will open doors for you to explore Mexico's rich diversity, language, culture, history, and timeless beauty in ways that will enhance your time abroad. 

Samples of excursions and activities: 

  • Visit Educe, a honey-bee cooperative in Mérida, to see how a local social enterprise integrates sustainability, community engagement, and purpose-driven business practices 
  • Explore Mérida’s Lucas de Galvez Market to observe the supply chain of local Yucatecan products, from regional producers to everyday consumers 
  • Experience the Maya town of Maní through a visit to a Melipona honey producer and participate in a traditional cooking class in a Maya home
