Program Overview

Your CIEE Semester Intern and Study Abroad program in Legon lasts 12 weeks and features three key components: a part-time internship with an international organization (approximately 20 hours per week), an internship seminar, and two elective courses taught online through CIEE's global academic partner, ASU. Enhance your experience with cultural and extracurricular activities while building career skills, expanding your professional network, and immersing yourself in Ghanaian culture. Live, learn, and work in Legon!

CIEE’s excursions and cultural activities in Legon will open doors for you to explore Ghana’s rich diversity, language, culture, history, contemporary trends, vibrant art, and timeless beauty in ways that will enhance your time abroad.

Samples of past excursions and activities:

  • Travel to Cape Coast and Elmina to see slave castles and the starting point of the Transatlantic journey they were forced to take
  • Discover regional highlights such as the Aburi Botanical Gardens, Tetteh Quarshie Cocoa Farm, Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum, and the W.E.B. Dubois Center
  • Enjoy the stunning Kakum National Park with its canopy walkway and rainforest
