Program Description:
IVHQ Hero
Join a group of students from around the world to Study Abroad in Costa Rica for 2, 3, or 4 weeks during Summer 2025!

This program combines volunteer placements, academic coursework, group excursions, and weekly reflections to create an immersive and community-oriented learning experience.

We match you with innovative and entrepreneurial host organizations around the world that give you the opportunity to make a real contribution on high-impact projects.

Our experiential learning approach provides a structured and guided platform for you to think critically about your experiences. Participants have the option to earn up to 14 academic credits through our School of Record partner, Warren Wilson College.
 
Project Options

You can choose to complete your volunteer hours in any of the following projects. Each project will show you a different aspect of your host community. Choose from:
  • Animal Care
  • Childcare
  • Construction and Renovation
  • Dentistry
  • Healthcare
  • Special Needs Care
  • Teaching English

We offer 3 summer start dates to choose from:
  • May 25, 2025
  • June 22, 2025
  • July 20, 2025
 
Eligibility Requirements

This program is open to students of all academic levels and majors.

This program is conducted in English, although you should reasonably expect to face some level of language barrier during your program. Optional Spanish language lessons are available in country for an additional fee.
 
Program Inclusions

You will live alongside other students in a small group homestay accommodation, and extracurricular activities will be included to ensure you experience real cultural immersion during your trip. Your program includes:
  • Online pre-departure meet-ups to know your coordinators and other students
  • Airport pick-up and drop-off
  • Accommodation in a small group homestay
  • 2 meals per day (breakfast and dinner)
  • Orientation
  • Placement in your project of choice
  • Welcome and farewell dinners
  • Weekly group reflections to process your learnings
  • Coursework materials & guidance
  • Up to 14 academic credits
  • Cultural activities and excursions
    • Week 1 - San Jose City Tour
    • Week 2 - La Paz Waterfall Gardens
    • Week 3 - Tiquicia Dinner Show
    • Week 4 - Toucan & Sloth Rescue

Your program fee is dependent on the duration and number of academic credits selected. Please note you are not required to earn credits to participate in this program. See full pricing details on our website.
 
How to Apply

Apply for free: Complete our Study Abroad Interest Form.
  • Select your start date, project type, and duration.
  • Complete your registration: After you have been accepted on your chosen program, you can secure your place by paying the Registration Fee.
  • Pay your Balance: This is due 30 days before your program starts.
