IFSA - Study in London: Black Influence and History in the UK

London, England
WHY STUDY IN CITY?
London is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world and one of the most popular study abroad destinations. A sophisticated city with endless cultural, historic, artistic, political, and intellectual offerings, it’s also home to many universities scattered throughout different neighborhoods. London’s excellent public transportation system will take you easily from your housing to classes and anywhere else you want to go. The city’s train stations, bus networks, and airports make traveling throughout the UK and Europe a snap.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Bring your interest in Black heritage to London, a thriving city known for a culturally diverse population that includes the post-World War II Windrush Generation of migrants from the Caribbean and Africa.
Dig into various facets of Black experiences and history with select classes, and round out your semester with additional options in business, psychology, and more. Learn alongside other IFSA students at our Mayfair Program Center, where you’ll be taught by London-based faculty. For deeper immersion, opt to enroll in one class at the University of Westminster or Queen Mary, University of London, for a supplemental fee.
After class, explore the best of London, from Portobello Road Market to the Tower of London. In Brixton, visit Black Cultural Archives, and explore Caribbean influence and memorials to the Windrush migrants. Wander through galleries of Caribbean art in Notting Hill. Plus, gain perspective tourists often miss with IFSA excursions and activities, all included in your program fee. You might catch a West End theater performance, cook in The Great British Bake Off tent, and go underground with a former coal miner in Wales.
