Program Information

Teaching & Youth Support Interns assist teachers in Rabat, to educate children in different age groups. These internships are great for aspiring educators who are prepared to be proactive, creative, and think outside the box. Whether assisting with activities at kindergartens or child nurseries, or collaborating with educators to support older students across curriculum, interns have scope to become immersed in an enriching culturally and linguistically diverse learning environment.

This program ranges from 4-24 weeks and has start dates every Monday throughout the year.

Your fully-hosted experience includes sourcing of your internship placement, personalization of your project plan, airport pick-up, orientation, accommodation, some meals, and onsite student support. See our full list of fees and inclusions on our website.

Eligibility Requirements

Suitable for students with at least one year of higher education in a related field, such as education, health sciences and psychology. Teaching and/or leadership experience is desired, in topics related to English, French, Math, Sciences, Sports, and Geography, or a desire to gain experience in the TEFL industry. High School graduates aged 18+ may be accepted, depending on the strength of their application (including any relevant experience, with a desire to learn and grow within this field).

This internship is conducted in English. However, interns should expect that a language barrier can still be encountered to a certain extent. We encourage all interns to take advantage of language lessons, which can be taken in conjunction with the internship.

Internship Details

Teaching & Youth Support internships are based in Rabat, Morocco, where there is scope to assist a range of educational providers. Pre-school is open to children of ages 4–6 years old and primary education in Morocco is offered from 6–12 years old. Interns assist local teachers with a range of activities. Come with an open mind and the commitment to being proactive. Internship experiences in this field are both greatly rewarding and personally enriching. If education is your passion, these placements provide a culturally immersive environment to broaden your teaching skills and cultural intelligence!

It’s important for teaching interns to be prepared for different educational systems and facilities, compared to what you may be used to at home. You may also find that some facilities are comparatively under-resourced and may not have access to abundant technologies (such as large numbers of computers and monitors, etc).

Interns should come with a flexible, adaptable and communicative mindset, prepared to assist as needed and provide support under local direction. This is an internship where you will have creative freedom, so it’s a great experience for utilizing experiential learning and initiative. Interns are encouraged to prepare ideas for activities in advance, which can be discussed with local coordinators.

Please note that, during the month of August, there are limited classroom placements, due to the summer vacation period. During this time, interns can expect to spend time with activities related to language education, rather than kindergartens or schools. The nature of activities interns are involved with in August may also include more administrative tasks, or projects related to planning.

To receive your Teaching & Youth Support internship placement in Morocco - once you have confirmed your participation - you’ll be asked to provide a copy of your resume and a cover letter. All interns are provided placement details, in consideration of your interests, skills, study background, and previous experience level. If there is a particular type of educational/teaching experience you’d like to have, just let us know. We do our utmost to accommodate preferences, subject to availability.

French and/or Arabic language proficiency is not a requirement to join this internship. However, interns should expect that a language barrier can still be encountered to various extents. Interns should be prepared for the very natural and normal frustration of not always understanding what is being said around them. Come prepared and willing to surmount a language barrier (and ask for help when needed), as opposed to being intimidated by it. Bear in mind that language lessons can be added to the experience and we encourage participants to consider signing up for these.

In all cases, interns should expect that the first week of your experience will focus on settling in and gaining some introductory knowledge, as you will not “hit the ground running”. Rather, you should start with learning about the placement to gain an understanding of what you can build upon, develop, learn, and contribute. Ensure that you ask questions and provide feedback during the introductory period, so that your supervisor understands how you’re progressing. This will help them to better understand important details, such as how quickly you learn, what you find challenging, what you find interesting, etc.

Understand and expect that individual internship experiences vary, as the specific placement that you’re assigned will depend on review of your resume and your current level of studies and experience. Therefore, if you’re at a more introductory level, you should reasonably expect a more introductory internship. Likewise, if you’re interning for a shorter duration, you will have a different experience from someone who is interning for a longer duration. Placement preferences are considered but always subject to availability.

Typical Schedule: Approximately Monday to Friday, 9am - 5pm. Hours may vary depending on the classroom schedule(s) of your internship placement.
