Veterinary & Animal Care internships in Belize provide existing opportunities to make a difference. From assisting with routine animal examinations, to supporting rehabilitation centers and rescue facilities, there is scope to help with a range of different needs, according to priority. As the only English-language speaking country in Central America, there is additional opportunity to support outreach clinics in rural communities and educate pet owners on topics such as parasite prevention, nutrition, and responsible pet ownership.

This program ranges from 4-12 weeks and has start dates every Monday throughout the year.

Suitable for students and recent graduates with at least one year of relevant college/university study in a related field, such as veterinary sciences, animal sciences, etc.

This internship is conducted in English.
 
Enhancing your exposure to professional animal care duties will build your confidence and abilities. Come prepared to develop essential transferable skills, related to working collaboratively with other people, as well as caring for animals and wildlife.

The tasks and activities available for interns within this program can vary, depending on animal welfare needs. Therefore, come prepared to balance the “not-so-glamorous side” of being a vet with your preferred activities. For example, Veterinary & Animal Care interns may be delegated duties related to cleanliness, organization, animal grooming, and exercise, in addition to other priorities and treatments. All aspects of the experience can serve to build a robust foundation of practical experience, demonstrating your passion and dedication to your career.

Ensure that you ask questions and provide feedback during the introductory period, so that your supervisor(s) understands how you’re progressing. This will help them to better understand important details, such as how quickly you learn, what you find challenging, what you find interesting, etc.
