Internship Details

Interns will have a wide scope of options to collaborate and learn from local experts, who strive to advance human rights issues in Jordan, putting strategies into place that make a difference and build stronger foundations for healthy communities. Interns should come with an open mind, the willingness to persist, fresh energy and a broad perspective. Your efforts will contribute to the promotion of acceptance and unity, and to enhance the wellbeing of those who are disadvantaged or at risk within the community.

Jordan receives a large number of refugees and asylum seekers every year who face multiple obstacles such as poverty, child labor, child marriage and lack of access to education. Women’s rights are also a key issue, as many Jordanian girls and women still continue to face gender-based discrimination and violence. Internship placements within this field can include NGOS, support groups and youth organizations. Interns have the opportunity to collaborate and learn from dedicated workers who are tirelessly committed to their mission.

Arabic-language skills are not required to join this internship as it is conducted in English. However, interns should expect that a language barrier can still be encountered to various extents. Interns should be prepared for the very natural and normal frustration of not always understanding what is being said around them. Come prepared and willing to surmount a language barrier (and ask for help when needed), as opposed to being intimidated by it. Bear in mind that language lessons can be added to the experience and we encourage participants to consider signing up for these.

In all cases, interns are expected to be as proactive as possible, as a high level of initiative will greatly enhance your cultural immersion and program engagement. Interns will be encouraged to focus on their areas of strength, while also being flexible, to ensure that contributions can be made according to interest, as well as need.
