Program Information

Do you want to volunteer with local children and youth in Colombia? International Volunteer HQ’s Childcare & Youth Support project is your chance to make an impact in Medellín, by helping support local children and young people who have suffered and had their rights violated. As a Youth & Childcare volunteer, you’ll help provide a safe space for these children and young people to learn and grow. You’ll help guide them, support them, and care for them, in order to protect their rights and wellbeing.

This program ranges from 1-24 weeks and has start dates every first and third Tuesday of each month throughout the year.

Your fully-hosted experience includes airport pick-up, orientation, accommodation, breakfast, and onsite student support. See our full list of fees and inclusions on our website.

Eligibility Requirements

This program is ideal for proactive and compassionate volunteers with strong social skills and who want to help children from difficult backgrounds to learn and grow, while advancing their own Spanish language skills and ability. Volunteers on the Childcare & Youth Support project are required to have at least an intermediate (B1) level of Spanish.

Your Impact

As a Childcare & Youth Support volunteer in Colombia, you will be helping a local organization that supports children and young people who have had their basic human rights violated, whether this is mistreatment, malnutrition, or mental or physical abuse.

Some of the tasks involved on the Childcare & Youth Support project may include:
  • Support, guide and carry out different recreational, pedagogical and training activities
  • Caring for children
  • Assist with the completion of homework
  • Light cleaning tasks and packing away equipment before the end of the day
  • Helping with mealtimes
Please note that tasks can vary depending on the organization you are placed with and the assistance required at the time.

For volunteers with longer durations, once you have adapted to the environment and are feeling confident, you may have the opportunity to arrange and implement workshops and activities two or three times a week. These workshops and activities could be in relation to English, math, science, sports, dance, music and arts and crafts.
