Join
International Volunteer HQ, the world’s leading volunteer travel organization, and support the
Teaching and School Support volunteer project in Trinidad and Tobago.
Program Information
International Volunteer HQ’s Teaching and School Support project gives volunteers the opportunity to assist in busy classrooms in Crown Point. Volunteers will gain teaching experience while lightening the load for local teachers and making sure students are well-supported and encouraged in their education.
Volunteers are accommodated in 1-bedroom apartments that reside within a local B&B complex, and each apartment can fit up to 2 individuals.
The program has
start dates every second and fourth Monday throughout the year. Please note that during school exams and holidays in early January, early April, July to August, and late December, this project closes temporarily. Volunteers will need to choose another project to support if you can only travel in these times.
This program ranges from 1-4 weeks. Your fully-hosted experience includes airport pick-up, orientation, accommodation, meals and 24/7 support. Detailed pricing information for your duration is available
on our website.
Your Impact
Teachers in Trinidad and Tobago are commonly in charge of more than 30 students per class, creating a busy environment where not every student can get the attention they need to learn. Volunteers are able to get hands- on experience while helping both students and teachers with everyday education by assisting and supporting teachers in elementary schools.
As a volunteer teacher you’ll assist local teachers in all aspects of lesson time, including both academic and non-academic tuition. You’ll be providing help to individuals, groups or to the whole class, where students range in age from between 5 and 12 years old. Teaching volunteer work can vary but generally includes:
- Helping teachers with curriculum lessons
- Assisting with a variety of subjects, including home economics, math, social studies and health
- Provide attention to students who require individual support
- Tutoring and mentoring students
