Program Description:

Teaching in the Galapagos
Join International Volunteer HQ, the world’s leading volunteer travel organization, and support the Teaching English volunteer project in the Galapagos Islands.

Program Information

By volunteering as an English teacher in the Galapagos, you’ll be improving access to language learning, helping local children progress at school, and supporting local adults to secure long term employment so they can support themselves and their families. You’ll also gain invaluable classroom experience in one of the most beautiful and biodiverse locations in the world!

Most volunteers will be accommodated in a homestay with a local family, but there is also the option of a small volunteer house.

The program has start dates every Monday throughout the year and ranges from 2-12 weeks.

Your fully-hosted experience includes airport pick-up, orientation, accommodation, meals, and 24/7 support. Detailed pricing information for your duration is available on our website.

Your Impact

As a volunteer on this project you will be supporting English learning in the community via classes in a primary school and/or focus group classes in the community. Volunteers will have the opportunity to work with students (primary school up to high school), teachers, government workers, local partners, park rangers, families, tour operators, and other community members. In this program you will have the choice between formal and applied teaching opportunities.

Volunteer work duties may vary but generally include:
  • Assisting classroom English teachers with classroom management, lesson planning, and leading activities
  • Teaching job related language skills to naturalist guides, English teachers, and biodiversity protection officers in their work setting
  • Helping to design and run continuing education programs for community members to practice conversational English
