Program Description:
Food Spain
Join International Volunteer HQ, the world’s leading volunteer travel organization, and support the Food Rescue Volunteer Project in Spain.

On this program, you will recover food that would be thrown away by local supermarkets and package it up for those who cannot afford to feed themselves or their families. Volunteers gain experience in food rescue and outreach community initiatives, while helping eliminate food waste and end hunger for vulnerable communities, such as homeless people, the elderly, and families in need.

Volunteers are accommodated in a dormitory-style hostel about 10 - 15 minutes from the city center of Barcelona.

The program has start dates the second and fourth Monday of every month throughout the year.

This program ranges from 2-12 weeks. Your fully-hosted experience includes airport pick-up, orientation, accommodation, meals and 24/7 support. Detailed pricing information for your duration is available on our website.
 
Your Impact

As a Food Rescue volunteer in Barcelona, you’ll be helping make a real difference by fighting food waste. Tasks will include:
  • Collecting and selecting food from local supermarkets
  • Storing the food and preparing food packages
These food packages are then distributed to different associations across Barcelona City. Depending on the day, the food that is being prepared can range from canned food to large amounts of fruit and vegetables.

How to Apply

Apply for free: Complete an online application form via the IVHQ website.
 
  • Select your start date & duration: All IVHQ volunteer programs are available year-round and you can choose to volunteer for durations on this program ranging from 2 to 12 weeks.
  • Complete your registration: After you have been accepted on your chosen program, you can secure your place by paying the Registration Fee.
  • Pay your Program Fee: This is only due 30 days before your program starts.
Need to make changes to your booking? You can make free unlimited changes to your destination, project and dates up until 14 days before you start.
