Program Description:
English China
Join International Volunteer HQ, the world’s leading volunteer travel organization, and support the Teaching English Volunteer Program in China.

On this program, you will assist in government-run schools, gain teaching experience and pass on invaluable English language skills to Chinese students. Knowing English and having the chance to learn from a fluent speaker gives local students a huge advantage with jobs in international industries and helps improve cultural understanding.

Your accommodation will be in either a volunteer apartment or in homestay accommodation near your placement. Both homestays and school apartments have been inspected thoroughly by local staff and chosen because of their safety and security.

The program has start dates the first and third Monday of every month throughout the year.

This program ranges from 1-24 weeks. Your fully-hosted experience includes airport pick-up, orientation, accommodation, meals and 24/7 support. Detailed pricing information for your duration is available on our website.

Your Impact

As a volunteer English teacher, you’ll be based in government-owned schools, helping to teach students aged between 3-21 years old. You can teach classes independently, with a fellow volunteer or as an assistant to a local teacher. Most often your students will be at the beginning of their English studies, so you’ll be focusing on basic words and phrases.

Teaching volunteer work can vary but generally includes:
  • Teaching English language classes
  • Lesson planning
  • Helping with language skills and pronunciation
  • Talking and connecting with students
