Program Description:

Healthcare Argentina
Join International Volunteer HQ, the world’s leading volunteer travel organization, on the Healthcare project in Buenos Aires or Cordoba. On this program, you will gain relevant medical experience and observe clinical practice in a cross-cultural setting. Medical volunteering in Argentina helps increase access to healthcare and improve the wellbeing of local people.

In Buenos Aires, volunteers are accommodated in a multi-story, dormitory-style volunteer hostel in the neighborhood of Recoleta.

In Cordoba, volunteers are accommodated in a family homestay in Barrio El Refugio, a peaceful neighborhood, 15 - 20 minutes drive from Córdoba airport, and 30 minutes drive to the city center. Your hostess is also your coordinator so our local team will be very easy to approach and always available in case you need anything. This two-story homestay has great facilities for volunteers, including a barbecue area and a swimming pool which is available in the summer.

Both programs have start dates every Monday throughout the year.

This program ranges from 1-12 weeks. Your fully-hosted experience includes airport pick-up, orientation, accommodation, meals and 24/7 support. Detailed pricing information for your duration is available on our website.

Your Impact

You’ll shadow local staff for the first few weeks of the project, while you find your feet and get acclimated. After that, your tasks will be customized to your skills, experience, training, personality and Spanish ability.

You are required to be suitably qualified for any tasks you carry out, and under Argentinian law students aren’t allowed to treat patients without the supervision of a local professional. For less qualified volunteers, this means duties will be mostly observational, assisting local staff with routine jobs including:
  • Check-ups and basic medical care
  • Taking patient details and measurements
  • Helping where needed around the clinic

Local medical staff benefit from the additional assistance, as well as the opportunity to communicate with international volunteers, as it facilitates a two-way cultural exchange of ideas, skills and experience.
