Program Description:
Medical India
Join International Volunteer HQ, the world’s leading volunteer travel organization, and support the Medical Volunteer Program in India.

On this program, you will have the unique opportunity to see Kerala’s world-class healthcare system in action. Volunteers will shadow highly respected doctors and nurses as they go about their work, including watching consultations and surgeries. While volunteer work will be largely observational, there may be the opportunity for medical and nursing students to help with basic tasks.

Volunteers in Kerala are accommodated in a volunteer house run by local coordinators, and the rooms are shared with bunk beds.

The program has start dates every Monday throughout the year.

This program ranges from 2-8 weeks. Your fully-hosted experience includes airport pick-up, orientation, accommodation, meals and 24/7 support. Detailed pricing information for your duration is available on our website.

Your Impact

Kerala has a huge number of public and private medical institutions that are known for providing top quality care to the region’s citizens. Volunteers will have the chance to shadow a qualified local doctor or nurse and observe them at work.

As a volunteer on the Medical project, you will be under the supervision of practicing medical professionals within modern private hospitals. You can choose from a wide range of specialties and have first-hand access to the daily duties of leading doctors and nurses working in that field.

Medical students should expect to mostly learn by watching, but may have the chance to perform basic tasks at the discretion of their supervising doctor. Nursing students may be able to do more hands-on volunteer work including blood pressure monitoring and wound care.

Community-based health camps can also be arranged for groups of volunteers. In the past, medical students have also conducted first aid workshops in schools.
