Program Description:
Animal Care Croatia
Join International Volunteer HQ, the world’s leading volunteer travel organization, and support the Animal Care Volunteer Project in Croatia.

On this program, you will help improve life and conditions for abandoned cats and dogs in overcrowded animal shelters in the seaside town of Split. Volunteers gain experience caring for the health and wellbeing of animals while giving them time, love, and the best chance of getting adopted.

Volunteers are accommodated in a dormitory-style hostel located in Split, about a 10 minute walk from the city center and from the famous Bacvice beach.

The program has start dates every Monday throughout the year.

This program ranges from 1-12 weeks. Your fully-hosted experience includes airport pick-up, orientation, accommodation, meals and 24/7 support. Detailed pricing information for your duration is available on our website.

Your Impact

As an Animal Care volunteer you’ll help local staff with routine daily tasks and raise community awareness about animal abandonment. Day-to-day duties include:
  • Playing with dogs and cats and following their progress
  • Walking the dogs in surrounding areas
  • Helping care for the animals: bathe, brush and observe the behavior of dogs and cats
  • Helping the staff with maintenance and cleaning tasks
  • Taking care of all areas of the shelter: green areas, animal enclosures and public spaces
  • Creating new entertaining spaces and toys for dogs and cats
  • Creating recreational spaces where visitors can relax and enjoy quality time with the animals while petting them
  • Creating a more familiar environment and community - welcoming and informative
  • Helping prepare and create innovative and beneficial events in the shelter and outside
  • Suggest innovative ideas to the organization that will directly or indirectly help in their mission to help animals
  • Taking pictures in different events and at the shelter

All animals housed in the shelter are fully vaccinated.
