Elderly Guatemala
Join International Volunteer HQ, the world’s leading volunteer travel organization, and support the Working with the Elderly Volunteer Project in Guatemala.

On this program, you will assist local organizations that help cater to the basic needs of older people in Antigua. Volunteers will gain experience caring for the elderly while providing them with companionship, connection, basic healthcare and support that make a meaningful difference to their daily lives.

Volunteers are accommodated in a large, dormitory style volunteer house.

The program has start dates every Monday throughout the year.

This program ranges from 1-24 weeks. Your fully-hosted experience includes airport pick-up, orientation, accommodation, meals and 24/7 support. Detailed pricing information for your duration is available on our website.

Your Impact

Elderly people from low-income families in Guatemala often rely on local services for their basic needs. Many of these are underfunded, and volunteers are a great source of support.

When you volunteer with the elderly you will help create a compassionate and friendly atmosphere that improves the quality of life for these people in their later years.

Elderly care volunteer work varies but usually involves:
  • Providing one-on-one attention
  • Basic healthcare assistance
  • Chatting with senior citizens
  • Arranging recreational activities
  • Assisting with medicine distribution, meal preparation or even exercise programs and arts and crafts projects.
