Program Description:
Dentistry Guatemala
Join International Volunteer HQ, the world’s leading volunteer travel organization, and support the Dental Volunteer Program in Guatemala.

On this program, you will help improve access to adequate dental care and treatment for underserved communities, as well as educate local people on dental hygiene. Volunteers are typically placed in a dental clinic or a health clinic offering dental services. As a Dentistry volunteer, you’ll assist with day-to-day functions of the clinic while gaining valuable exposure to dental practices and the healthcare system in Guatemala.

Volunteers are accommodated in a large, dormitory style volunteer house.

The program has start dates every Monday throughout the year.

This program ranges from 1-24 weeks. Your fully-hosted experience includes airport pick-up, orientation, accommodation, meals and 24/7 support. Detailed pricing information for your duration is available on our website.

Your Impact

The health and dental care systems in Guatemala face many challenges including being underfunded and understaffed. Many local people struggle to access adequate health and dental care. Volunteers can help address this critical lack of resources by providing dental care to disadvantaged communities and helping ensure their hygiene and wellbeing is looked after. This is an awesome opportunity to observe or shadow qualified dentists at work in a cross-cultural setting.

As a Dentistry volunteer in Guatemala, your tasks may include:
  • Assisting with scheduling appointments and updating patient records
  • Assisting with teeth cleaning and check-ups
  • Shadowing a dentist or dental hygienist
  • Helping to educate the community about basic dental hygiene, healthy routines, and the risk of gum disease
  • Cleaning and preparing materials

Your tasks and the level of hands-on work you are able to complete may vary based on the needs of the project and the community at the time you are volunteering, and will also depend on your level of studies and qualifications.
