Program Description:

Teaching English Bali
Join International Volunteer HQ, the world’s leading volunteer travel organization, on the Teaching project in Lovina or Ubud. You will have the opportunity to teach school children valuable English language skills and share your culture.

On IVHQ’s Bali - Lovina projects, you’ll be volunteering in a laid-back seaside area where you can find relaxation and adventure in equal measures. On the northern coast of Bali, Indonesia, you’ll find black sand beaches and plenty of snorkeling, diving and dolphin watching. Walking from the volunteer accommodation to the nearest beach takes just 10 minutes and you’ll get yourself to the middle of town in 15. Volunteer placements are in various locations nearby with travel time ranging from 5 to 45 minutes.

The Ubud program is set among lush rice paddies and ancient temples which will send you back in time. The 14 villages that make up the historical town of Ubud have streets lined with statues and ornate temples that ooze old-world charm. Ubud is also known for its artistic flair, with countless art galleries, artists’ workshops, craft shops and markets to explore.

Both locations offer start dates every Monday throughout the year.

While volunteer schedules depend on the particular projects and placements, a typical day might look like this:

8:00 AM Breakfast at the volunteer house.
9:00 AM Volunteers spend 1 to 2 hours planning for their projects.
12:00 PM Lunch.
1:00 PM Volunteers head to their placements.
5:00 PM Work at the project usually ends. Volunteers are free to travel back to their accommodation, go sightseeing, or do some shopping.
7:00 - 8:00 PM Dinner at the volunteer house.

Weekends are left for free time and exploration.

This program ranges from 1-12 weeks. Your fully-hosted experience includes airport pick-up, orientation, accommodation, meals and 24/7 support. Detailed pricing information for your duration is available on our website. In Lovina, you’ll stay in a dormitory-style volunteer center where you’ll get the chance to experience typical Balinese village life. In Ubud, you’ll be staying in volunteer houses, located about 15 minutes’ drive from central Ubud. Set in small villages, it’s a great place to see typical Balinese life.

Your Impact

As a volunteer teacher, you’ll be running after-school English classes for elementary school children. You may be paired up with another volunteer or in sole charge, and you’re free to get creative with how you teach. You might include games, songs, sport or art in your lessons. There is a general syllabus for you to follow and examples of what previous volunteers have done to guide your lesson planning.

Day-to-day teaching volunteer work varies, but generally consists of:
  • Teaching English to 8-12 year olds in Lovina and elementary school students in Ubud
  • Providing pronunciation and language guidance
  • Lesson planning
  • Setting up educational games and activities
