The two-week Egypt Pre-Vet Equine Medicine program is based at a horse rescue and hospital in Cairo, Egypt. The center is home to rescue horses, donkeys, and mules, and also has an on-site hospital seeing daily equid patients including horses, donkeys, and even camels. With your teaching veterinarian, you will learn about the anatomy and physiology of horses, as well as their upkeep, physical exams, dentistry, welfare, and preventative health care. You will also get to observe the assessment and treatment of daily patients by the veterinarians on-site.We will also do some work with a Cairo dog shelter that is a permanent home to thousands of stray dogs.
In addition to learning about the horses and assisting in their care, you’ll also get a chance to explore Egypt, including a tour of the Great Pyramids and the Sphinx, a boat ride on the Nile, a market trip, and a weekend trip to Luxor where the Tomb of King Tutankhamun is located.
You can optionally earn 3 credits from the University of Findlay during this program. The program includes observing, learning about, and assisting with the animals at the horse rescue learning from your veterinary trip leader and your on-site local veterinarian in the classroom, clinic, and rescue center. Please note that this program may include equid necropsy.
