Thailand Coastal Conservation – Short Term Internship

Start building your conservation skill set in Southern Thailand. Join other international interns to work toward United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, UN SDGs, #14, Life below Water and #15 Life Below Land, by assisting the Thai government with turtle conservation, beach plastic pollution cleanup, island conservation, and environmental education.
PROGRAM FOCUS
On this conservation internship, interns have the opportunity to take part in several ongoing conservation activities. This might include working at the Phang Nga Royal Thai Navy Sea Turtle Conservation Centre and other sea turtle conservation and research facility, assisting with collecting morphological data on turtles and conducting enrichment studies with the turtles.
Interns can also get involved in collecting and submitting data on marine debris, specifically plastic pollution, as well as conducting bird in the surrounding area and submitting their identifications to the international database, e-bird
Once a month, interns can assist with the monitoring of two tropical islands using camera trapping technology, learning about how this innovative method is being used to further conservation efforts. If interns book onto the internship program during the months of November to April, they can also assist with coral reef conservation, snorkelling to survey the health of the reef and note the abundance of fish species present. Specific attention is given on this conservation internship, to learning about the importance of getting the local community involved in local conservation efforts. Therefore interns are often asked to contribute to our ongoing environmental education program in the region, delivering workshops at local schools, hotels, and to tour and dive operators. This gives interns a chance to engage with the social and economic factors influencing conservation goals in Thailand.
This program includes the GVI ILM Leadership Development training, designed to develop your leadership skills.
LOCATION
Travel to southern Thailand to live and volunteer in Phang Nga, a province along the Andaman sea. Contribute to conservation projects in a region consisting of mangrove forests, limestone cliffs, white-sanded beaches, and tropical islets. On the weekend, or after your GVI volunteering project, you can visit Ao Phang Nga National Park to learn about the largest mangrove forest in Thailand.
Along with local community members and conservation organisations, GVI works towards marine conservation, environmental awareness and educational enhancement objectives.
If you are looking for a Thailand volunteer experience that combines tropical landscapes with meaningful sustainable development, a GVI program in Phang Nga is the province for you. You’ll have the opportunity to assist in preserving sea turtle populations, or gaining experience in teaching or health education.
