Program Description:

Laos Women's Empowerment Short-Term Internship

Cover

Discover the ancient country of Laos when you volunteer with GVI on critical community development projects throughout the city of Luang Prabang

Although tourism has picked up in Laos over recent years, it is still one of the poorest countries in the world and is largely an agricultural country. By volunteering in Laos with GVI, you can contribute to sustainable projects that aim to have a long-term impact on the lives of local community members and their futures.

With project focuses ranging in marine and wildlife conservation, childcare, animal care, health care and teaching, there is something for everyone.
Spend your gap year, career break or volunteering holiday exploring a land rich in culture and ornate temples, as you make a difference teaching English to young Buddhist monks or volunteering with children on a variety of childcare initiatives.

PROGRAM FOCUS

Contribute to gender equality initiatives by completing an international women’s empowerment internship abroad in Luang Prabang, the ancient capital of Laos, famous for its many Buddhist temples and monasteries.

As a GVI women’s empowerment intern in Laos, you will be working on ongoing, long-term sustainable development gender equality programs, set up and managed by GVI staff who are experienced in international sustainable development, previous interns, and supported by volunteers.

Some of the projects that interns might be working on include teaching English to local girls and women in the community as well as conducting health and life skills workshops. By improving women’s access to education, you will be supporting UN SDG, #4, Quality Education. Women who are more educated also have increased access to further academic and employment opportunities contributing to UN SDG #8, Decent Work and Economic Growth. By conducting preventative health workshops you will also be working on UN SDG, #3, Health and Well-being. No matter which women’s empowerment interns work the main mission will also remain the furthering of UN SDG #5, Gender Equality.

LOCATION

Laos is a Southeast Asian country traversed by the Mekong River and known for mountainous terrain, French colonial architecture, hill tribe settlements and Buddhist monasteries. Travel to the UNESCO listed heritage site of Luang Prabang, the ancient capital of Laos, famous for its many Buddhist temples.
