Program Description:
Long Term Community Development Internship in Fiji
Kickstart your international development career while immersing yourself in the Fijian culture and exploring the gorgeous tropical island landscape.Learn how locally lead community empowerment projects are run, learning how to put international development theory into practice. Work in partnership with local Fijian communities on initiatives aligned to several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Program Focus
This international development internship offers you the opportunity to get involved in a host of sustainable development initiatives, the goals and priorities of which are discussed and determined in collaboration with the local communities of the Dawasamu District and Moturiki island. Each project is also aligned to one or more of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The core focuses of our sustainable development project in Fiji include income generation, sustainable agriculture, health awareness, education enrichment, gender equality and women’s empowerment, water conservation, sanitation and waste management, environmental management and protection.

Location
Located among the forests and mountainous backdrop of the Dawasamu District, you will be working alongside the local community and contributing to development initiatives in the region. The dramatic Fijian landscape is defined by sweeping volcanic hillsides, dense jungle, fresh water waterfalls, extensive beaches, and colourful coral reefs. Fiji is an archipelago of over 300 islands located in the Pacific Ocean. This destination offers more than the classic island paradise experience.The country is also a leader in sustainability and ecotourism, effectively managing its natural resources and economically benefiting from this investment. By volunteering in Fiji, you’ll be able to experience the natural abundance of Pacific environments while learning how to best preserve them.

  • In your free time, go hiking through the lush hills and mountains of these tropical islands or explore their underwater worlds on a diving or snorkeling expedition.
