Program Description:
Arizona in Portugal offers an opportunity for archaeological fieldwork in Tró?ia, located on the beautiful white sand beaches of Portugal, only 50 km from the capital of Lisbon.  The four-week program runs during the month of June and is open to both undergraduate and graduate students. Participants earn 6 units in Anthropology or Classics.

The Tróia archaeological fieldwork program offers the opportunity for professional, accredited excavation experience at the site of Tróia, the largest fish-salting production center known in the Roman Empire. When the Roman settlement was abandoned in the 6th century, it was buried in sand dunes that were responsible for its exceptional preservation. Students will work to uncover pottery, amphorae, coins, and bone objects. The fieldwork will be supplemented by lectures, workshops and site study visits oriented and guided by specialists in the afternoons and one day per week.

Courses Available (6 units):

Anthropology 463/563
Classics 463/563
