Arcadia-Glasgow School of Art
Your own studio space in a prestigious, creative learning institution

Glasgow School of Art is recognized worldwide for its excellence in teaching and innovation in fine arts. The School is housed in a one-of-a-kind, art nouveau building designed by the renowned Scottish architect, Charles Rennie Mackintosh. GSA alumni are world-renowned in their field. The 2011 winner of the Turner Prize (the most important British contemporary art award), sculptor Martin Boyce, is an alum, and the School boasts three other recent Turner Prize winners: Douglas Gordon (1996), Richard Wright (2009), and Simon Starling (2005).

With one-on-one instruction, a high degree of independent study, and focused studio work, GSA's fine arts courses allow you to realize and develop your creativity and to mature as an artist. Emphasis is placed on studio work and continuous interaction and discussion with your instructors and visiting artists. Areas of concentration include: textile design, painting, photography, sculpture, silversmithing and jewelry, printmaking and graphic design, glass blowing, drawing, and architectural studies.
  • Members of the faculty are practicing and recognized artists in their own right regularly exhibiting in one-person shows, exhibitions, and prestigious galleries as well as serving as consultants, art jurors, and commentators.

  • The city of Glasgow itself is considered the second city in Britain for excellence in art, with many practicing artists in residence.

  • Architecture is available as a course option for Academic Year students.

  • A portfolio of work will be required with your application.

  • New Study Abroad Studio Art Programme designed for students who have taken one or two art courses at the university level. Select your classes from a variety of introductory studio art courses.

  • Travel to fascinating places of interest that enhance your cultural immersion and give a meaningful context to your academic courses through Arcadia's planned Excursions and Activities.
