Program Description:

Arcadia - University of Galway
Outstanding academics in an idyllic setting

The vibrant cultural heritage of Galway city, known as the Cultural Capital of Ireland, will be a unique and impressive part of your academic and social experience at the University of Galway. With its bookstores, arts and crafts, music and theatre, pubs, shops, cafes, and restaurants Galway offers a treasure trove of lively history and culture on Ireland's famous west coast.

The picturesque campus, over 160 years old, is a mere 10-15 minute walk or ride from the center of Galway. While classes are taught in English, the university maintains a strong commitment to the Irish language which you'll hear spoken on campus and throughout the local area.

You’ll be able to choose from the University's extensive variety of course offerings in the humanities, sciences, business, engineering, and law. To make the most out of the study abroad experience, many students take advantage of courses in Irish history, language, and culture.

  • Innovative research in nanotechnology, Celtic civilization, human settlement, historical change, and integrated digital enterprises are just a few academic specialties.

  • In 2012, the university was awarded a prestigious five-star rating from the QS Stars rating system and received the maximum ratings in several key areas including research, teaching, internationalisation, facilities, engagement, and innovation.

  • Two special options for study abroad students are service learning and practice-based learning of indigenous Irish music, song, and dance.

  • Virtual Internship Option: Replace one elective course with a virtual internship through Arcadia to add international professional experience to your resume. See the Internship Placement Guide for information about placement details.

  • Travel to fascinating places of interest that enhance your cultural immersion and give a meaningful context to your academic courses, through Arcadia's planned Excursions and Activities.
