Program Description:

Arcadia Dublin Parliamentary
An Insider’s Experience in Legislative Operations

Are you looking for an unparalleled insight into contemporary Ireland and legislative operations? The innovative Dublin Parliamentary Internship is available through Arcadia University's affiliation with the Institute of Public Administration (IPA), a recognized college of University College Dublin (UCD). The IPA offers challenging courses to complement your internship with a Teachta Dála (TD) who is a member of the Irish Parliament Dáil Eireann, at a time when European politics faces particularly challenging and unprecedented issues.

Only North American students sponsored by the IPA have the privilege to intern in both houses of the Irish parliament. The IPA is a highly respected Irish institution that focuses exclusively on civil and public sector development through part-time and distance education, training, and research; not a traditional campus. It is located in an attractive, tree-lined area of Dublin within easy reach of the Parliament and city center. As the program only offers a few spots, it is highly selective and therefore only open to students who, at the point of application have a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

  • Responsibilities may include conducting surveys, researching and reporting on issues related to public welfare, and preparing for press briefings. Your individual initiative, skills and past experience will largely determine the type of work you are assigned.

  • You'll spend two or three full days in your internship placement and two days each week taking courses with other North American interns on the program. Courses include: Modern Irish Literature, the History of Modern Ireland and Irish Society and Politics.

  • This program is also available for graduate credit.

  • Participants on the Dublin Parliamentary Internship Program are required to be vaccinated against COVID and to provide proof of vaccination as a condition of participation.

  • Travel to fascinating places of interest that enhance your cultural immersion and give a meaningful context to your academic courses, through Arcadia's planned Excursions and Activities.
