Program Description:

SIT Study Abroad: Iceland: Renewable Energy, Technology, & Resource Economics (Summer 1 & 2)

Explore natural energy sources and technology’s impact on the environment and economy in Iceland. Gain hands-on experience developing a renewable energy project.

WHY STUDY ABROAD IN ICELAND?

With untapped reserves of enough geothermal and hydroelectric energy, Iceland is the perfect place to learn about renewable energy sources and sustainability. You’ll meet with multiple stakeholders connected with the renewable energy sector for a multifaceted view of the country’s energy policy and learn about the latest renewable energy technologies. You’ll also be immersed in Icelandic culture and language and discover Iceland’s untamed landscape from Akureyri, an energy–progressive city at the base of a fjord.

MONEY MATTERS

SIT is an all-inclusively priced study abroad program – including academics costs, excursions, accommodations and meals, airport transfers, and health insurance. Be sure to discuss how study abroad costs are handled at your school with your study abroad advisor and read the website for more specific information.

SCHOLARSHIPS

SIT has awarded an average of over $1.3 million in scholarships and grants to SIT Study Abroad students in the past three years. All scholarships and grants are need-based. Awards generally range from $500 to $5,000.

QUOTE
"This program was amazing! We traveled all across Iceland, learning from various professors about renewable energy. We also visited several hydropower and geothermal power plants across the country and got to hear from the operators there as well. We covered the engineering of renewable energy, every types' pros and cons, and policies that different countries have used to incentivize transitioning to renewables. This program has a great work-life balance and you get super close to all of your classmates as well. Along the way we saw lots of waterfalls, glaciers, puffins, and even got to climb an inactive volcano. Highly recommend to anyone majoring in environmental science or a related field."
