Program Description:

SIT Study Abroad: Iceland: Renewable Energy, Technology, & Resource Economics (Summer 1 & 2)

With untapped reserves of enough geothermal and hydroelectric energy, Iceland is the perfect place to learn about renewable energy sources and sustainability. You'll meet with multiple stakeholders connected with the renewable energy sector for a multifaceted view of the country's energy policy and learn about the latest renewable energy technologies. You'll also be immersed in Icelandic culture and language and discover Iceland's untamed landscape from Akureyri, an energy–progressive city at the base of a fjord.

This program offers residential housing, no homestays. Please visit the SIT Study Abroad website for details on the program highlights and details of coursework, educational excursions, and housing.

HEAR FROM A FORMER STUDENT

"This program was amazing! We traveled all across Iceland, learning from various professors about renewable energy. We also visited several hydropower and geothermal power plants across the country and got to hear from the operators there as well. We covered the engineering of renewable energy, every types' pros and cons, and policies that different countries have used to incentivize transitioning to renewables. This program has a great work-life balance and you get super close to all of your classmates as well. Along the way we saw lots of waterfalls, glaciers, puffins, and even got to climb an inactive volcano. Highly recommend to anyone majoring in environmental science or a related field."
